Hyderabad, Oct 13 (INS) In an effort to promote responsible driving behaviors among the public, Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar officially introduced the Safe Ride Challenge on Monday. This social media campaign aims to transform road safety into a trending topic online.

Motorists are encouraged to create a brief video or take a picture before they set off on their journey, showcasing themselves wearing helmets or securing their seat belts. They should also tag three friends or family members to participate in the challenge.

This initiative is crafted to generate a positive ripple effect across social media channels, enhancing awareness regarding safe driving practices among the youth and general commuters.

“Safety never goes out of style. Every ride begins with a choice to protect yourself and those you love,” Sajjanar stated, motivating citizens to join the movement. “Together, we can make safety the coolest trend of 2025,” he added.

The campaign emphasizes three essential actions before each journey: buckling up, wearing helmets, and encouraging others to do the same. By merging public engagement with a digital challenge, the police are hopeful of fostering a culture of safety and accountability on the roads of the city.

Hyderabad Police have increasingly utilized digital platforms to connect with citizens, creatively promoting responsibility. With the Safe Ride Challenge, their goal is to make compliance with safety regulations a visible and impactful endeavor.

Since taking office as Police Commissioner earlier this month, Sajjanar has made it clear that severe penalties will be imposed on individuals using mobile devices while driving. “Many drivers, including those of auto-rickshaws and cab/bike taxis, are frequently seen watching videos or using earphones while operating vehicles. This is perilous and constitutes a punishable offense. The Hyderabad Traffic Police will take stringent action against such offenders,” he posted on ‘X’. “The safety of oneself, passengers, and fellow road users is paramount. No distraction justifies risking a life — stay focused and stay safe,” he added.

Sajjanar previously described drunk drivers as “road terrorists.” He remarked that they jeopardize not only their lives but also the lives of others. “When driving under the influence, they are unaware if they will harm someone or themselves. They are akin to suicide bombers, posing a threat to many once they hit the road,” the police officer stated.
