New Delhi, May 24 (NationPress) The NHRC has instructed Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora to initiate an investigation and provide a report by June 5 regarding a woman's claims of sexual abuse against a journalist from a news portal, as stated by an official on Saturday.

A bench led by Priyank Kanoongo issued this directive after reviewing the social media posts of the unnamed Hindu victim, where she made serious allegations against a Muslim journalist.

The NHRC also requested updates on any formal investigations, if initiated by the news portal against the accused under the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013.

The victim accused the journalist of sexual, physical, and mental abuse, including repeated forced unprotected sex, along with allegations of recurrent forced pregnancies and abortions.

In her complaint to the NHRC, the victim alleged that the accused brutally raped and beat her, forced her to consume beef as a means of humiliating her Hindu identity, and compelled her to plead for forgiveness while he engaged in conversation with other women.

The complainant expressed skepticism regarding the news portal's willingness to offer her any relief or to carry out an unbiased inquiry against the accused.

While mandating an investigation, Kanoongo noted, “The appropriate authority is directed to identify the victim for investigative and support purposes, while also respecting her right to privacy. They must guarantee her safety and security and implement all necessary measures to protect her from further harm. Proper counseling and emotional support must be provided, acknowledging the severe trauma she allegedly experienced.”

The NHRC also inquired if the management of the news portal had lodged a police complaint in light of the serious allegations of sexual, physical, and mental abuse made against the accused.

“If so, on what date was the complaint filed, and what actions have the police undertaken since? Were the authorities specifically informed about the allegations of rape and severe physical assault as described by the victim in her viral social media posts?” questioned the NHRC.
