Key Takeaways

NIA files charges against 64th accused Rafeek M S linked to RSS worker's murder Ongoing threats to investigators PFI's alleged agenda under scrutiny 71 individuals identified in the case

Kochi, June 12 (NationPress) The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has submitted a supplementary charge sheet against yet another individual implicated in the murder of RSS worker Sreenivasan, which took place in Kerala's Palakkad district. This incident is reportedly linked to members of the Popular Front of India (PFI), according to an official statement.

The recent chargesheet, presented to the NIA Special Court in Ernakulam, identifies Rafeek M S as the 64th person to be formally charged in this case. He faces multiple charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

The NIA claims that Rafeek, an active member of the PFI, was involved in plotting the attack against Sreenivasan. He provided shelter to key accused Muhammad Shefeek, who is a central figure in the conspiracy, and also allegedly destroyed evidence pertaining to the crime.

It is significant to note that Rafeek continued to protect Shefeek even after the Indian government imposed a ban on the PFI in September 2022.

Further investigations indicated that Rafeek had received arms and physical training at a PFI-operated facility in Periyar Valley Campus, Aluva (Ernakulam) to prepare for terrorist activities for the organization.

The murder of Sreenivasan, which occurred on April 16, 2022, is part of what the NIA categorizes as PFI’s “malevolent agenda to establish Islamic Rule in India by 2047.”

This violent incident took place just a day after the murder of PFI leader Subair, who was killed in front of his father in Palakkad.

Sreenivasan, a former RSS official, was brutally attacked in his shop by six assailants on motorcycles during daylight.

To date, the NIA has identified a total of 71 accused in this case, with eight individuals still at large. The investigation is ongoing, and efforts to capture the remaining suspects are in progress.

In a disturbing twist, the investigating officer handling the case received threatening phone calls in November 2022, warning him of dire consequences for pursuing the investigation.

In his complaint at the Palakkad Town South Police Station, the officer reported that the caller said, “Your investigation is troubling us. Keep your coffin ready.”

Authorities are taking these threats seriously as the investigation continues to develop.
