New Delhi, March 31 (NationPress) Four Nigerians, along with an aide, were apprehended and narcotics valued at Rs 27 crore were seized during a significant crackdown on a major narco-network in the Delhi-NCR region. This operation was a collaborative effort between the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and the Special Cell of the Delhi Police, as confirmed by an official on Monday.
The network was operational in areas including Tilak Nagar in west Delhi, Chhatarpur in south Delhi, and Greater Noida.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah commended the achievements of the enforcement agencies and reaffirmed the commitment to ongoing actions against drug trafficking.
In a message shared on the X platform, the Home Minister stated, “In alignment with the Modi government’s zero tolerance policy towards drugs, a significant narco-network was dismantled in Delhi-NCR. The NCB and Delhi Police effectively apprehended the gang, seizing methamphetamine, MDMA, and cocaine worth Rs 27.4 crore and arresting five individuals. I commend the NCB and Delhi Police for this substantial achievement.”
An official report indicated that upon receiving intelligence about a potential transaction of high-grade Methamphetamine in the Chhatarpur area, a joint task force from the NCB and Special Cell initiated surveillance on the suspects.
This surveillance resulted in the interception of a vehicle transporting 5.103 kilograms of premium Crystal Methamphetamine valued at Rs 10.2 crore. Five individuals in the vehicle, four of whom belonged to a prominent Nigerian family, were arrested.
Intensive questioning and technical tracing uncovered that the drugs originated from an African kitchen located in Tilak Nagar, west Delhi.
A search conducted at this kitchen led to the seizure of 1.156 kilograms of Crystal Methamphetamine, 4.142 kilograms of Afghan Heroin, and 5.776 kilograms of MDMA (Ecstasy pills) worth Rs 16.4 crore.
A follow-up search at a rented residence in Greater Noida resulted in the recovery of 389 grams of Afghan Heroin and 26 grams of cocaine.
The investigation revealed that to facilitate the movement of African nationals involved in drug distribution, the syndicate arranged student visas for them to enroll in major private universities in the National Capital Region (NCR) and Punjab.
For some students, the visa served merely as a facade for their presence in India while they engaged in drug distribution and cryptocurrency transactions.
