New Delhi, Nov 23 (NationPress) Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday reaffirmed the government's commitment to combat the drug crisis and praised the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) along with the Delhi Police for an impressive seizure of contraband valued at Rs 262 crore.
"Our administration is dismantling drug cartels at an unmatched speed. By adopting a comprehensive investigation approach, we achieved a significant breakthrough by confiscating 328 kg of methamphetamine worth Rs 262 crore in New Delhi and apprehending two suspects," stated HM Shah in a post on X.
"This operation exemplifies exceptional multi-agency collaboration towards realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji's vision for a drug-free India. Kudos to the collaborative efforts of the NCB and Delhi Police," he added.
In a prior announcement, the NCB indicated that its Bhubaneswar Zonal Unit secured a conviction of three individuals involved in drug trafficking from the court of the 3rd Additional District and Sessions Judge in Bhubaneswar.
This case traces back to August 13, 2021, when NCB officials apprehended three individuals with 20 kg of opium.
Further investigations revealed the suspects' participation in an inter-state smuggling operation, where opium was hidden in a specially designed cavity in a truck's driver's cabin.
All three suspects were charge-sheeted in February 2022, and the truck used for transporting illegal opium was also confiscated.
The convicted individuals, Vijay Bhan, Suraj Pal, and Surendra, all residents of Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, were sentenced.
Each convict received a 10-year term of Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) along with a fine of Rs 1 lakh under applicable sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
An NCB official remarked that this conviction highlights the NCB's dedication to dismantling organized drug trafficking networks that operate across state lines.
This marks the third conviction achieved by this unit in as many cases within this calendar year, the official noted.
