New Delhi, March 31 (NationPress) Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday expressed his appreciation for the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and Delhi Police for executing a collaborative operation in the ongoing battle against drug trafficking, successfully dismantling a significant network within the Delhi-NCR region. This operation led to the seizure of illegal drugs valued at Rs 27.4 crore.
Sharing his thoughts on X, the Home Minister remarked: "In alignment with the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s policy of zero tolerance towards drugs, a significant narco-network has been dismantled in the Delhi-NCR area. The NCB and Delhi Police took decisive action and seized methamphetamine, MDMA, and cocaine worth Rs 27.4 crore, arresting five individuals in the process."
“I commend the NCB and Delhi Police for this outstanding accomplishment,” he further stated.
Additionally, the Home Minister reaffirmed the Centre’s unwavering commitment to combatting the drug trade.
The recent drug seizure, valued at Rs 27.4 crore, occurred in the Chhatarpur area, where a joint team from the NCB and Delhi Police special cell intercepted a vehicle containing 5.10 kg of crystal methamphetamine worth Rs 10.2 crore. The team also apprehended four African nationals from Nigeria.
Police surveillance in the Chhatarpur area was initiated after receiving a tip-off regarding a forthcoming drug transaction.
Upon interrogation, the traffickers disclosed that the drugs originated from an African Kitchen located in the Tilak Nagar region of West Delhi.
During a search of the premises, the NCB-police team recovered 1.15 kg of crystal methamphetamine, 4.14 kg of Afghan heroin, and 5.77 kg of MDMA (Ecstasy pills) valued at approximately Rs 16.4 crore. In follow-up searches at a Greater Noida apartment, 389 grams of Afghan heroin and 26 grams of cocaine were also seized.
Initial inquiries indicated that the African nationals had obtained student visas under the guise of pursuing education at private universities in Delhi-NCR, yet they exploited these visas to engage in illicit drug distribution.
An organized syndicate appears to be facilitating the entry of African youths into India, allowing them to act as conduits for the supply of drugs and cocaine within the region, including Delhi and Punjab.
