Patna, May 10 (NationPress) Amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan due to Operation Sindoor and the Pahalgam terrorist attack, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar convened a crucial security review meeting on Saturday at the Mahananda Auditorium in the Purnea Collectorate.
The focal point of the meeting was to enhance security and vigilance across Bihar’s sensitive border districts.
Additional Chief Secretary of the Home Department, Arvind Kumar Chaudhary, provided an extensive security briefing to the Chief Minister.
The briefing highlighted preparations in Purnea, Katihar, Kishanganj, Araria, and Supaul—districts that share borders with Nepal and are in close proximity to Bangladesh. Choudhary emphasized that security around vital installations and religious sites has been fortified, vigilance along the India-Nepal international border has been intensified, and regular patrolling, movement monitoring, and prevention of illegal activities—including narcotics, arms trafficking, and human trafficking—are actively occurring.
He further remarked that medical preparedness and the supply of essential commodities in border regions, along with fire safety protocols and coordination with central forces, have been improved. Senior representatives from the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, BSF, Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), and Indian Railways participated in the meeting, sharing their preparedness strategies and collaborative efforts with the Bihar government.
In light of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu & Kashmir, which resulted in the tragic loss of 26 civilians, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar remarked, “Despite Bihar not sharing a border with Pakistan, our closeness to Nepal and Bangladesh necessitates heightened vigilance.”
He praised the Indian Army and the central government for their decisive actions and advocated for collaborative measures at the state level to enhance security.
“We must closely monitor roads, bridges, railway lines, religious sites, and fuel depots,” Kumar stated.
Nitish Kumar instructed all state departments to escalate border patrolling in coordination with SSB and military units.
He also urged officials to meticulously observe activities on the Indo-Nepal border roads, keep an eye on suspicious behavior and individuals, deploy police forces at all sensitive locations, and leverage intelligence networks to avert misinformation and unrest.
He added, “Anti-social or terrorist factions may seek to exploit vulnerable individuals. Every officer must remain alert and responsive. Close collaboration with central paramilitary forces and the Indian Army is essential.”
While the immediate focus is on the five Seemanchal districts, the Chief Minister emphasized that other border districts in Bihar must also sustain a heightened state of readiness.
“Senior officials must ensure consistent inspections and maintain preparedness throughout the state,” he concluded.
