Noida, April 13 (NationPress) A demonstration by workers in Phase 2 of Noida, located in Gautam Buddha Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh, escalated into turmoil on Monday, as protestors advocating for a salary increase confronted law enforcement and caused property damage outside a private establishment.

The protest, which had persisted for three days as a sit-in, reached a boiling point when thousands of workers flooded the streets across various industrial sectors. The situation became chaotic in Sector 1, Block 84, where some demonstrators allegedly ignited vehicles. Initial reports indicated that at least two vehicles were completely destroyed in the blaze.

Witnesses and preliminary reports indicate that stone-throwing incidents also transpired during the demonstration, resulting in harm to multiple vehicles and company assets. Additionally, unrest was noted in Sector 62, where large crowds of workers created significant traffic disruptions, hindering normal transportation.

To control the unrest, local officials have deployed a substantial police presence. Officers are striving to avert further property damage and uphold law and order in the vicinity. Several vehicles have been vandalized, and multiple company properties sustained damage, with reports of one vehicle being set ablaze.

This unrest follows recent commitments made by the district administration. On Sunday, officials from the administration, law enforcement, and industrial leaders engaged in discussions with representatives from various companies and workers, pledging to take measures addressing their primary demands.

Medha Roopam, the District Magistrate of Gautam Buddha Nagar, remarked that several directives had already been instituted following discussions with industrial entities. She highlighted that workers would receive double wages for overtime and be entitled to a weekly day off. If employees are required to work on their designated rest day, they will also receive double pay for that day.

Furthermore, the administration has mandated that all workers receive bonuses according to established regulations, with payments to be directly credited to their bank accounts within the designated timeframe.

In an overarching effort to enhance labor conditions, the district administration has introduced new regulations applicable throughout Gautam Buddha Nagar. These guidelines require all firms and industrial units to disburse wages by the 10th of each month. Double-rate overtime compensation has become mandatory, and unauthorized salary deductions will invoke punitive measures. Employers must also provide salary slips to all employees.

Additionally, a specialized control room has been established to swiftly address workers’ grievances. The district administration has called on workers to remain composed, avoid spreading rumors, and collaborate with authorities to maintain tranquility in the region.
