The protests initially started on Monday when factory employees throughout Noida protested against low wages and unmet salary revision demands. The unrest escalated in certain parts of the Phase 2 industrial area, resulting in vandalism, stone-pelting, and road blockades.
Traffic flow faced significant disruptions due to the unrest, especially on the Noida Link Road and routes from the Chilla Border, causing long delays for commuters traveling between Delhi and Noida.
In light of the situation, the Uttar Pradesh government has announced a revision in minimum wages across various worker categories. Law enforcement has also taken measures to restore order, with approximately 300 individuals arrested thus far.
Under the new wage structure, monthly earnings in the Gautam Buddh Nagar and Ghaziabad districts have seen substantial increases. Unskilled workers will now earn Rs 13,690, up from Rs 11,313.
Semi-skilled workers will see their wages rise to Rs 15,059 from Rs 12,445, while skilled workers will now receive Rs 16,868, an increase from Rs 13,940.
In other municipal areas, unskilled workers will earn Rs 13,006, semi-skilled workers Rs 14,306, and skilled workers Rs 16,025. For the remaining districts, the revised wages are Rs 12,356 for unskilled workers, Rs 13,591 for semi-skilled, and Rs 15,224 for skilled workers.
Officials stated that the updated interim wage rates encompass both basic pay and Dearness Allowance, aiming to address the concerns of workers while restoring stability in the area.
