Northeast Prepares for a Joyful Christmas Celebration Filled with Unity and Generosity

Aizawl/Kohima, Dec 24 (NationPress) The northeastern region is all set to celebrate Christmas this Wednesday.

In particular, the Christian-majority states of Mizoram, Nagaland, and Meghalaya are preparing for a spectacular Christmas filled with excitement, joy, and traditional customs.

Churches, streets, homes, towns, and villages are adorned to honor the birth of Jesus Christ.

This festival is celebrated for several days in the northeastern states, with community feasts organized on the second day to highlight the occasion's importance.

The hilly state of Mizoram is renowned for its lively Christmas celebrations, which integrate religious devotion with local traditions, making December a particularly special time in the border state.

The festive atmosphere reaches new heights as December ushers in the Christmas celebrations.

Churches are elaborately decorated, and Christmas carols resonate throughout the state.

Christmas trees and decorations can be seen in villages, towns, and workplaces, with Christmas songs echoing everywhere.

Numerous church organizations, NGOs, and influential civil society groups like the Young Mizo Association (YMA) have stepped up to provide gifts for the less fortunate.

The Governor of Mizoram, Hari Babu Kambhampati, and Chief Minister Lalduhoma have encouraged state residents to contribute funds for orphanages and care facilities.

Christmas embodies the spirit of 'giving' and promotes peace and unity.

Nagaland and Meghalaya also saw streets, buildings, and trees illuminated with colorful lights and decorations.

Nagaland's Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio extended Christmas wishes through a post on X, stating: 'May the message of Christmas, which is Peace, Love, Joy, and Hope, fill our hearts. Let's uphold the values of tolerance, forgiveness, and goodwill in true Christian spirit. Wishing you all a merry and blessed Christmas.'

In Meghalaya, streets, homes, and villages have been festively decorated well in advance of the celebrations.

In Manipur, the Indian Army held Christmas festivities on Monday and Tuesday at Sandangsemba Maring, Keho Tankhul villages, and at the EL Roi de-addiction healing home in Yaingangpokpi, Imphal East district.

These events fostered joy, warmth, and unity among local communities.

A defense spokesperson noted that at the Healing Home, residents in recovery from substance abuse participated in gift exchanges and enjoyed festive treats, expressing their gratitude for the Army's support.

Village festivities included cake-cutting, Christmas carols, traditional Naga dances, and cultural performances.

Local talent was celebrated, adding a unique flair to the festivities.

The celebrations exemplified the Army's commitment to strengthening community ties and spreading love, compassion, and unity during the holiday season.

Over six million Christians reside in Mizoram, Nagaland, and Meghalaya, with a significant Christian population in other northeastern states like Manipur, Tripura, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and Sikkim.
