Defence spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mahendra Rawat indicated that this quarterly operational group meeting was organized under the leadership of Spear Corps and the Directorate General of Assam Rifles in Lekhapani, Assam.
The meeting convened senior officials from the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, state police, and intelligence agencies to conduct a thorough assessment of the ongoing security landscape and to bolster inter-agency cooperation across eastern Assam, southern Arunachal Pradesh, and adjacent regions of Nagaland.
Notably present were Shri Hibu Tamang, Inspector General of Police (operations) for the Tirap, Changlang, and Longding areas of Arunachal Pradesh, along with formation commanders of the Assam Rifles, Army representatives from eastern Assam, and high-ranking police officials from the respective states.
Lieutenant Colonel Rawat emphasized that the presence of all stakeholders indicated a collaborative and determined approach to tackle emerging security threats in the region.
During the discussions, the focus was on evaluating ground intelligence, improving real-time information exchange, and aligning operational priorities.
Topics addressed included activities of insurgent groups, cross-border issues, and the necessity of enhancing surveillance and area control in vulnerable regions.
With the upcoming Assam Legislative Assembly elections, there was a significant emphasis on maintaining increased vigilance to ensure a secure atmosphere that would prevent any disruption to the electoral process.
According to the Defence spokesperson, the meeting concluded with a commitment to a cohesive joint operational framework, better interoperability, and streamlined coordination protocols to facilitate prompt and effective responses to any emergencies.
All agencies reiterated the importance of continuous adaptation, joint training, and a unified operational stance in sensitive zones, showcasing a high level of synergy, trust, and professionalism among the security forces.
The crucial elections for the 126-member Assam Assembly are scheduled for April 9.
