Imphal, Feb 8 (NationPress) Director General of Assam Rifles Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera, accompanied by senior officials, visited the districts in Manipur that have been affected by unrest and assessed the forces' operational readiness.
A defense spokesperson reported that Lt Gen Lakhera, along with Maj Gen Ravroop Singh and other high-ranking officials, toured the Sector HQ at Somsai in Ukhrul district and the forward Company Operating Base at Tusom to evaluate operational preparedness.
The Assam Rifles leadership also engaged with ex-servicemen and Veer Naris. During their visit, Lt Gen Lakhera received a detailed briefing on various operational and administrative matters from Deputy Inspector General Brig Sandeep Singh.
Post-briefing, the DG interacted with the troops, ex-servicemen, and Veer Naris, leading to fruitful discussions.
After these interactions, the Assam Rifles chief awarded a Commendation Card to C. Hopingson, the Village Headman of Bungpa Khullen, recognizing his significant contributions to uplifting the marginalized communities of border villages.
He also visited the forward company operating base at Tusom in Ukhrul district to assess its operational capabilities. He praised the troops for their steadfast dedication to border security and their continuous efforts to uphold peace and stability in the area.
In another initiative, the Assam Rifles, as part of its mission to empower women and bolster community security, organized a seminar titled “Empowerment through Self-Defense” at the Community Hall in Sorde village, Kamjong District.
This event was conducted by Riflewomen of the Assam Rifles and saw participation from 25 local women.
