Imphal, Jan 18 (NationPress) The sitting National People's Party (NPP) MLA N Kayisii, a former minister, passed away on Saturday in Imphal following a lengthy illness. He was 59 years old.

A prominent leader from the Naga community, Kayisii was elected to the state Assembly two times from the Tadubi constituency, significantly influencing the Senapati district near Nagaland. He served as the President of the Manipur state unit of the NPP, which is led by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma. From 2017 to 2020, he held the position of Minister for the Tribal and Hill Areas department.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh of Manipur, alongside his Meghalaya counterpart Sangma, expressed condolences regarding Kayisii's passing, emphasizing that his dedication to the people of Manipur will be long remembered.

Singh visited the residence of the late legislator to convey his sympathies to his family. He remarked that Kayisii represented the Tadubi Assembly Constituency in the Manipur Assembly for two consecutive terms, winning elections in both 2017 and 2022.

“He made significant contributions to the roles he held as Minister of Tribal Affairs and Hills and Fisheries. Kayisii’s time as an MLA showcased his dedication to developing his constituency and addressing numerous challenges faced by the State. His passing is a profound loss, not just for his family, but for the whole State. The gap left by his departure will be hard to fill,” Singh noted.

In his condolence message, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma described Kayisii as a dedicated servant of the people. He indicated that Kayisii’s death is a significant loss for the residents of Manipur, especially for the Makhan Khuman Tadubi Constituency, and for the entire NPP community.

“We have lost a capable leader who truly represented the masses. Reflecting on my close relationship with him, I am profoundly grateful for Shri Kayisii's leadership and invaluable input. During this challenging time, I offer my deepest condolences to his family, friends, and supporters. May his soul find eternal peace,” Sangma expressed.
