He emphasized that Sen was widely recognized for his neutrality and dignified demeanor within the Assembly.

During a condolence gathering held to honor the late leader at Nazrul Kalakshetra in Agartala, CM Saha remarked that Sen consistently took on an impartial and constructive role in the Assembly.

"The people of Tripura have lost a true public leader," stated Chief Minister Saha.

At 72, the Tripura Assembly Speaker and four-time MLA, Sen, passed away at a private hospital in Bengaluru on December 26, 2025, following a lengthy medical treatment exceeding four-and-a-half months.

Reflecting on the certainty of death, the Chief Minister noted that although death is an ultimate reality, many struggle to accept it.

"There are numerous individuals who fade from memory after their demise. Therefore, one should undertake actions that guarantee they are remembered long after they are gone. Biswa Bandhu Sen was indeed one of those remarkable individuals," he remarked.

CM Saha reminisced about his longstanding personal relationship with Sen, tracing back to their student days at Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) College in 1971.

"During that period, incidents of violence, terrorism, and bombings were frequent, and MBB College was hardly conducive for academic pursuits. Biswa Bandhu Sen resided in the hostel, and we forged a strong friendship," he recounted.

He also mentioned that after aligning with the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2017, he was assigned organizational duties that brought him to Dharmanagar, where Sen served as the MLA.

"Whenever I encountered him, he would proudly present me as his friend to others. He was one of the most reliable individuals I knew in Dharmanagar, always ready to lend a helping hand," CM Saha shared.

He recalled that August 8 was the last occasion they met, sharing a cup of tea together.

"On that very day, I received the shocking news of his brain hemorrhage. Initially, he was admitted to Tripura Medical College and later transferred to a private hospital via a Green Corridor. Despite undergoing urgent surgery and receiving advanced treatment outside the state, he ultimately succumbed to his illness," the Chief Minister stated.

He added that Sen stood as a consistent opponent of Communist ideology, significantly contributing to the functioning of the Assembly through his experience and principled approach.

The condolence assembly was graced by the presence of Tripura BJP President and MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, State party Vice-President Subal Bhowmik, Papiya Dutta, Tapas Bhattacharjee, State Assembly's Deputy Speaker Ram Prasad Pal, former Speaker and MLA Ratan Chakraborty, Ministers Sushanta Chowdhury, Tinku Roy, Kishore Barman, Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumdar, Chief Whip Kalyani Saha Roy, among other public representatives and distinguished personalities.
