Bhubaneswar, Jan 16 (NationPress) The government of Odisha has announced a monthly honorarium of Rs 30,000 for recipients of various Padma Awards from the state. This increased honorarium will start from January this year.
The Odia Language, Literature and Culture Department of Odisha released a notification on Thursday regarding this decision.
“Considering the remarkable contributions made by the Padma awardees from the state in various sectors, the government has resolved to offer an honorarium of Rs 30,000 each month to these individuals,” stated the notification from the State Culture Department.
Additionally, the department confirmed that all Padma awardees from the state will begin receiving the monthly honorarium of Rs 30,000 via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) starting January 2025.
Furthermore, district Collectors and District Cultural Officers across the state have been instructed to compile and submit the details of all living Padma Awardees in their districts promptly.
The previous Naveen Patnaik-led BJD government declared in March 2024 an honorarium of Rs 25,000 monthly for these distinguished individuals, who have been awarded one of India's highest civilian honors.
It is noteworthy that the Padma Awards are bestowed upon outstanding personalities for their exceptional service to the nation, categorized as Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri annually.
As per available records, 106 individuals from Odisha have received Padma Awards across various categories for their contributions in Arts, Literature, Education, Social Work, Medical Science, and Engineering since the awards' inception in 1954. These illustrious individuals have elevated Odisha's prestige through their exceptional talent and dedication.
