Odisha has been awarded the Best Award in the State Category at the 9th India International Water Week (IIWW) 2026, organised by the Ministry of Jal Shakti at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. The recognition, confirmed by the Odisha Water Resources Department on 25 September 2026, came as the state participated as the Partner State of the event, held under the theme Climate Resilient Water Management.

What the Odisha Pavilion Showcased

The Odisha Pavilion presented the state's integrated approach to water management, weaving together water conservation, efficient utilisation, agricultural innovation, and community participation. A central exhibit demonstrated how water resources infrastructure and farmer involvement can collectively strengthen rural livelihoods.

A standout attraction was the Odisha Integrated Irrigation Project for Climate Resilient Agriculture (OIIPCRA), which displayed the restoration of minor irrigation systems alongside initiatives including direct-seeded rice cultivation, green manuring, crop diversification, integrated rice-fish farming, and access to agricultural machinery through Custom Hiring Centres, according to the department.

Key Exhibits and Community Initiatives

The pavilion also featured a scale model of the Kanupur Irrigation Project, illustrating the state's major irrigation infrastructure and its strategy for meeting localised water requirements. A dedicated Pani Panchayat display underscored the role of farmers and local institutions in water-use planning and irrigation governance.

A Best Practices Corner and interactive exhibits further engaged visitors on water conservation methods and community-driven solutions — an aspect that drew considerable attention at the national-level platform.

The Odisha Water Resources Department stated that the award recognises the state's 'ongoing efforts to integrate water infrastructure with the needs of agriculture and communities.' As Partner State, Odisha also used the event to share its experiences and draw lessons from approaches adopted across the country to counter climate-change challenges.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi took to his X handle to extend congratulations to officers, engineers, employees of the State Water Resources Department, and the state's farmers.
