Bhubaneswar, April 4 (NationPress) Odisha's Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, for the approval of Rs 447.11 crore aimed at enhancing a crucial stretch of National Highway in the state.
In an official statement representing the people of Odisha, the Chief Minister highlighted that these sanctioned funds are set to fortify an important interstate corridor and significantly enhance connectivity among various districts.
The initiative involves the development of a 103.52-km section of the Kurumpuri–Raj Khariar segment along NH-353 and NH-59, traversing through Nuapada and Balangir districts.
This corridor serves as a vital link between the Raipur–Mahasamund region of Chhattisgarh and Odisha, extending towards Berhampur and Gopalpur Port.
In a social media update on X, Majhi stated that this investment will not only improve road safety but also facilitate smoother transit for passengers and goods, while unlocking tourism opportunities in attractive locales like Daringbadi and the Sunabeda Wildlife Sanctuary.
“This groundbreaking project is expected to propel regional development and foster enduring prosperity for the residents of Odisha,” he remarked.
Nitin Gadkari, in a separate message on X, noted that the upgradation will encompass the districts of Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, and Ganjam. He mentioned that the enhancements will include rectifying hazardous sections and implementing paved shoulders, thereby increasing safety for commuters, particularly those on two-wheelers.
The minister emphasized that the upgraded highway will streamline the movement of both passengers and freight, thereby improving accessibility to hilly areas and tourist attractions, which in turn will stimulate local tourism and economic activity.
Officials indicated that this project is anticipated to significantly benefit the southern and western regions of Odisha, which have been in need of improved road infrastructure. Upon completion, it is expected to cut down travel times, reduce logistics expenses, and enhance trade between Odisha and adjacent Chhattisgarh.
Furthermore, the project is forecasted to create job opportunities during its construction phase and foster new avenues for economic progress in the area.
