New Delhi, Aug 8 (NationPress) In a robust response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's assertion that "India will never compromise on the interests of farmers", farmers from Odisha's Jagatsinghpur district have expressed their unwavering support and confidence in his leadership amidst escalating trade disputes with the US.
Debadatta Mohanty, a notable farmer from the coastal SIPI area of Jagatsinghpur, praised the Prime Minister’s promise, stating, "This is already a Viksit Bharat, and we commend PM Modi for his initiatives. Despite the tariffs imposed by Donald Trump, we have faith in PM Modi, who diligently works for farmers, and we believe he will advocate effectively for us... We will not bow before Trump."
Mohanty highlighted the farmers' trust in the government's dedication to safeguarding their livelihoods. He commended programs like the PM-KISAN scheme, which has provided direct financial aid to numerous farmers. “No matter what challenges surface, farmers' concerns will not be overlooked. The Prime Minister deserves all the recognition for his persistent efforts,” he remarked.
Other farmers in the region echoed Mohanty’s sentiments, affirming that PM Modi is rightly addressing farmers' issues and expressing gratitude for his steadfast stance.
This display of support aligns with Prime Minister Modi’s emphatic statements at the MS Swaminathan Centenary International Conference held in Delhi, where he reaffirmed his government's resolute focus on farmers, livestock holders, and fishermen.
“The welfare of farmers is our utmost priority. India will never bargain with the interests of its farmers, livestock holders, and fishermen. I understand that I may face significant personal repercussions for this, but I am prepared. India is ready, for the sake of its farmers, fishermen, and livestock holders,” the Prime Minister stated after US President Donald Trump announced an increase in tariffs on Indian exports.
Paying homage to MS Swaminathan, the architect of India’s Green Revolution, the Prime Minister added, “Building on the legacy of food security, the next challenge for our agricultural scientists is to guarantee nutritional security for all.”
Farmers in Jagatsinghpur have regarded the Prime Minister’s message as timely and empowering, reinforcing their faith in a government that staunchly supports the rural backbone of the nation.
