Bhubaneswar, Sep 26 (NationPress) Odisha is preparing to welcome the second edition of the National Mediation Conference at Loka Seva Bhawan, Bhubaneswar, scheduled for September 27–28, 2025.
This event, organized by the Office of the Advocate General along with the Odisha Law department, aims to unite renowned jurists, policymakers, and legal specialists to discuss the increasing significance of mediation within India’s justice framework.
An official announcement states that the conference aims to enrich national discussions on mediation while equipping practitioners and the public with the necessary skills and knowledge to fully exploit its advantages. Mediation, as an alternative dispute resolution method, is deeply embedded in India’s cultural tradition of dialogue, harmony, and reconciliation.
Historically, before formal courts existed, community panchayats and village elders played a crucial role in settling disputes through dialogue.
The inauguration of the conference will be led by the Chief Justice of India, Justice B.R. Gavai, on September 27 at 6:30 p.m. The event will also be attended by notable figures such as the Governor of Odisha, Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Justice Surya Kant, a Supreme Court Judge and Chairman of the National Legal Services Authority, Attorney General of India R. Venkataramani, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, Chief Justice of Orissa High Court Justice Harish Tandon, and Justice Manash Ranjan Pathak, Judge of Orissa High Court and Chairman of the State Legal Services Authority.
The inaugural National Mediation Conference took place on May 3, 2025, at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, under the guidance of the Attorney General of India and the Ministry of Law and Justice, in the esteemed presence of the President of India.
In response to discussions at that initial event, Odisha is now hosting the second edition to further promote the philosophy and practice of mediation nationwide.
In a press briefing, Advocate General Pitambar Acharya remarked, “This marks a significant moment for Odisha. We are the first state to endorse the Mediation Act, 2023, enacted by Parliament. Mediation serves as a people-centered, swift, and effective means of delivering justice, embodying the vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make justice accessible for all.”
