Bhubaneswar, March 20 (NationPress) Celebrating the occasion of 'Pakhala Divas', the Odisha Tourism Department achieved a remarkable global milestone by securing a Guinness World Record for the largest serving of fermented rice, known as Pakhala, with an astonishing total of 1,174 kg prepared and served in a single vessel.

The department stated, "This exceptional accomplishment not only commemorates Odisha's rich culinary traditions but also brings global attention to Pakhala, a traditional dish that is integral to our culture and daily life."

This achievement is significant as it positions Odisha's indigenous food customs on an international platform, illustrating how Pakhala Bhat has transformed from a simple local dish into a symbol of cultural pride with worldwide significance.

On the same day, the Odisha Tourism Department organized the state-level Pakhala Paraba (Festival) at Panthanivas in Bhubaneswar to enhance the popularity of this traditional summer delicacy, Pakhala.

The Chief Minister underscored that Pakhala is not merely a dish but a vital part of Odisha's culture and tradition.

Before the official event commenced, the Chief Minister visited the Odia Food Festival at Panthanivas, where he appreciated nearly 326 varieties of Odia dishes.

He also joined the dignitaries in enjoying Pakhala.

In a special endeavor to establish a Guinness World Record, the Tourism Department prepared 1,174 kg of Pakhala from 850 kg of rice, drawing substantial attention.

This dish was distributed to over 2,000 individuals from underprivileged communities.
