Bhubaneswar, Dec 4 (NationPress) In a significant move to define India's energy future, the Odisha government announced on Thursday that it will organize the Global Energy Leaders' Summit (GELS) 2025 in Puri from December 5 to 7. This summit aims to convene both global and national leaders at an unprecedented scale for a state-led initiative.
Mirroring the structure of the annual global Conference of Parties (COP) Summit, this event aspires to be India's premier high-level venue for shaping the nation's energy strategy.
The summit will feature participants from the Union government, around 15 Indian states, and over 30 experts in the energy sector, both national and international.
The theme for GELS 2025 is "Powering India: Sufficiency, Balance, Innovation", which reflects the nation’s priorities for its energy future.
According to the official statement, the summit is built on three core pillars: "Sufficiency" emphasizes ensuring that all citizens and industries have access to adequate and affordable power; "Balance" aims to align ecological and environmental needs with economic activities; and "Innovation" includes technological advancements, financial tools, and policy reforms.
A notable strength of the GELS platform, as highlighted by the government, is its capacity to facilitate states in sharing insights from power-sector reforms while candidly addressing challenges.
Discussions will encompass pressing and future-oriented topics, such as power trading, energy storage, nuclear energy, data sharing, grid security, and the application of artificial intelligence.
During a pre-summit event held on Thursday, Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo reiterated Odisha's goal to become a leader in national energy transformation.
Describing GELS 2025 as a "COP for India's energy sector", he stated that the summit will encourage states to adopt innovation-centric models and strengthen cooperative as well as competitive federalism.
"Odisha takes pride in hosting a summit that unites influential voices to bolster India's transition towards secure, sustainable, and future-ready energy systems," he remarked.
The summit is set to feature a remarkable array of global and national leaders, ensuring rich and diverse discussions about the future of energy.
It will also include representatives from the Union Ministries of Power and New and Renewable Energy, alongside various state governments.
The formal inauguration of GELS 2025 will take place on December 6 by Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
