Srinagar, Aug 19 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), Omar Abdullah, expressed on Tuesday that history is history and it should not be manipulated for political reasons.
During a press conference today, CM Omar Abdullah stated that the history of India is well-documented, and it should not be rewritten for political agendas.
When questioned about the Partition of India in 1947 and the widespread belief that it was imposed by Mohammad Ali Jinnah, he remarked, "The British divided us and that is the truth. Our children should learn history as it occurred, enabling them to draw their own conclusions in the future."
On the subject of new chapters being added to school curricula focusing on the RSS, he cautioned, "If there are additions today, what will happen when a different party takes charge? They might remove those chapters and replace them with content that aligns with their political beliefs. We should not tamper with history," he emphasized.
Regarding the candidate for the Vice President's post from the India Bloc, CM Omar Abdullah stated, "This election was imposed upon us, and we are unsure why Dhankhar Sahib resigned or his whereabouts post-resignation."
"I hope he is doing well," he concluded.
He expressed his hope for the UPA candidate to secure victory once the election occurs.
When questioned about the tragic incident in Kishtwar, the Chief Minister noted, "There is minimal hope that the over 70 missing individuals will be found alive.
"Our responsibility is to provide assistance to the affected families. During my visit, I gathered information regarding their needs, and we are striving to meet those demands."
In response to concerns about the risk of glacial lakes bursting and flooding areas downstream, CM Abdullah commented, "The events in Kishtwar were caused by a cloudburst. We faced a similar incident earlier in Ramban.
"In Ramban, the casualties were fewer, while Kishtwar witnessed a significant loss of life.
"It is imperative to form a team of experts to assess areas vulnerable to cloudbursts and recommend measures to minimize human and property losses caused by such calamities."
Addressing the Opposition's criticism of his signature campaign for restoring statehood, CM Abdullah stated, "Initially, we didn’t reach out to the public for this cause, and the Opposition urged us to bring it to the forefront.
"Now that we have engaged with the public, they oppose this initiative as well.
"The Opposition’s role is to oppose, while our role is to work. They can continue their function while we pursue ours."
