Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Srinagar, Dec 15 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, emphasized on Monday that political interference in various institutions must be firmly rejected. Speaking to reporters at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC), he addressed concerns regarding alleged meddling in a power project by a BJP MLA, stating that such actions are unacceptable.
"Interference by politicians in the operations of government bodies is both troubling and regrettable. It is imperative that we address these issues with gravity. Institutions were once accountable to an elected government, but now decisions are often made without that framework," Abdullah remarked.
The Chief Minister insisted that essential bodies like the Power Development Corporation and other departments should operate autonomously, free from external pressures or political agendas.
During his visit to the SKICC, Abdullah also honored beneficiaries of various flagship initiatives, including Mission YUVA, HADP, and JKCIP.
He reiterated his administration's dedication to empowering the youth, enhancing livelihoods, and fostering inclusive growth throughout Jammu and Kashmir.
Additionally, the Chief Minister laid the e-foundation stones and inaugurated several significant development projects in Srinagar district, with a total cost exceeding Rs 37 crore. These projects include the refurbishment of Abhedananda Home for children with special needs, the construction of critical bridges over Maloori Nallah, the expansion of academic-clinical facilities at GMC Srinagar, and the establishment of a Fleece Testing Laboratory at Zakura.
These initiatives aim to bolster social welfare, healthcare, connectivity, and livelihoods.
On the tourism front, Abdullah acknowledged that while there have been cancellations due to recent unrest, efforts are underway to revitalize the sector in time for Christmas and the New Year.
"The Adventure Tour Operators Association of India is set to hold its annual convention in Srinagar soon, which is a positive development. We need to concentrate on enhancing tourism promotion and infrastructure," he concluded.
