Amaravati, June 5 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N. Chandrababu Naidu, alongside Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, inaugurated the 'Vana Mahotsav' event aimed at planting one crore saplings throughout the state on the occasion of World Environment Day this Thursday.
The leaders, accompanied by Municipal Administration Minister P. Narayana, engaged in planting the saplings at ADCL Park in the state capital, Amaravati.
The officials took the opportunity to explore stalls set up by the Pollution Control Board (PCB) focused on environmental conservation.
PCB Chairman Krishnaiah briefed the Chief Minister on the initiatives being implemented for plastic recycling.
The Chief Minister instructed officials to develop a specialized policy for recycling and requested a report every 15 days.
In a prior post on 'X', Chandrababu Naidu emphasized that nature does not belong to anyone.
"It is everyone's responsibility to safeguard the environment. Protecting forests and water resources is our duty. Hence, the government is spearheading a massive tree planting initiative. On this World Environment Day, we urge everyone to join in the mission to plant one crore trees in just one day," stated CM Naidu.
He added, "This year's World Environment Day theme is tackling plastic pollution. Let’s commit to diminishing plastic waste and protecting our environment."
Pawan Kalyan, who also serves as the Minister for Forest and Environment, remarked that a clean and healthy environment is the most valuable legacy we can leave for future generations.
"We must act with responsibility and embrace the duty of protecting our environment. Let’s plant saplings, combat water pollution, and strive for wildlife conservation," said Pawan Kalyan.
In related news, the Forest Department indicated that Andhra Pradesh currently boasts 29 percent land under green cover.
The state government aims to elevate this figure to 50 percent by 2047 through greening various lands, including those owned by farmers, the Revenue Department, institutional lands, roadsides, railway lines, and canals.
Of the state’s total geographical area of 1,62,923 square kilometers, 48,978 square kilometers is currently covered in greenery. Plans are in place to expand green cover by an additional 32,483 square kilometers.
As per the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, this year’s World Environment Day is celebrated under two themes: the “Vana Mahotsav” initiative and 'End Plastic Pollution' to work towards a 'Swachh Andhra Pradesh'.
A remarkable one crore seedlings are set to be planted by various departments and stakeholders statewide within a single day this Thursday.
Looking ahead to the 2025 planting season, the Forest Department, alongside Rural Development, Pollution Control Board, Horticulture Departments, and others, aims to plant 5.58 crore saplings across approximately 1.8 lakh hectares in all districts throughout the state.
