Nagpur, May 18 (NationPress) Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan attended the farmers' Convention -- Krishi Samvaad, part of the Vikasit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, in Nagpur, Maharashtra.
During the event, Union Minister Chauhan and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis honored progressive farmers from the Nagpur division for their outstanding contributions to agriculture and extended their best wishes.
The program was also attended by Agriculture Minister Manikrao Kokate, Ministers Ashish Jaiswal, Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Dr M.L. Jat from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, and several dignitaries.
In his speech, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan stated, “We are launching ‘One Nation, One Agriculture and One Team’ today from Maharashtra. The Central and State Governments, including the Chief Minister, Agriculture Minister, MPs, MLAs, senior scientists, and the entire Agriculture Department staff are here. The Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Ministry, State Agriculture Ministry, ICAR, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, and all agricultural institutions must collaborate as a cohesive unit.”
He emphasized that connecting all institutions, setting targets, and developing roadmaps can lead to remarkable achievements in agriculture.
Shivraj Singh remarked, “Maharashtra, the revered land of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, is extraordinary. The farmers here are dedicated and progressive, brimming with untapped potential.”
Praising the Chief Minister, the Union Minister noted his continuous efforts to transform the agricultural landscape and enhance the lives of farmers. “Under our Prime Minister’s guidance, we are committed to making our farmers self-sufficient and increasing their incomes, and we will achieve this as a united team,” he affirmed.
In a significant announcement, Shivraj Singh Chauhan revealed the establishment of a national-level lab in Pune under the Clean Plant Program. This lab will focus on researching original plant species. He made this announcement while engaging with farmers from Vidarbha at the Krishi Samvad event held in the Kavivarya Suresh Bhat Auditorium in Nagpur.
Highlighting the importance of increasing agricultural production, he stated, “The Clean Plant Program aims to ensure nurseries are pure and free from diseases. Farmers must recognize the significance of quality seeds, soil testing, and reducing production costs to enhance productivity.”
During the event, Chouhan shared that ICAR has 113 institutes nationwide, with 11 located in Maharashtra. He announced a forthcoming meeting with heads of all ICAR institutes at the National Bureau of Soil Survey and Land Use Planning (NBSS and LUP) in Nagpur to strategize agricultural advancement in Maharashtra. The government is dedicated to bridging the gap between laboratories and farmland, with 16,000 agricultural scientists from ICAR set to visit villages alongside agricultural extension officers to educate farmers on new seed varieties and innovative farming practices.
Chouhan mentioned that during a 15-day campaign from May 29 to June 12, agricultural scientists will be visiting villages to assist farmers in sustainable farming techniques and planning for the Kharif season.
On this occasion, Shivraj Singh stated, “Our Prime Minister, Sh. Narendra Modi, is devoted to propelling the nation forward. Modiji's vision is to create a glorious, powerful, prosperous, and developed India.”
Chouhan, alongside Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, inaugurated the National Soil Spectral Library, which houses data on soil pH values, density, and elemental composition gathered through hyperspectral sensor technology by NBSS and LUP. With this launch, Maharashtra became the first state to possess a comprehensive soil map.
Additionally, Chouhan introduced an AI-driven Smart Trap technology to manage the pink bollworm pest impacting cotton crops, which will notify farmers about pest threats to their crops.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis elaborated on the Wainganga-Nalganga River Linking Project, aimed at enhancing irrigation capabilities in Vidarbha. He assured that the state government will fully support the inclusive policy proposed by Shivraj Singh Chauhan for the nation.
State Agriculture Minister Manikrao Kokate highlighted the challenges posed by labor shortages in cotton harvesting. Research and development are in progress for battery-operated small tractors, and if successful, the results will be submitted to the Agriculture Ministry.
