Opposition Leaders Condemn Nitesh Rane's 'Kerala Mini-Pakistan' Remark Amidst Inaction

Mumbai, Dec 30 (NationPress) Maharashtra's newly-appointed BJP minister, Nitesh Rane, is under scrutiny after his remarks labeling Kerala as a mini-Pakistan.
During an event in Pune, Rane alleged that only extremists in Kerala support members of the Gandhi family, including Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi.
His comments have ignited a political uproar, with Opposition parties condemning him for spreading hatred and calling for immediate repercussions.
In a statement to IANS, Samajwadi Party MP Abu Azmi criticized Rane, stating, “He is a petty individual. A cabinet of hatred should be formed for him as he consistently spews hate. Such unfounded remarks are made without repercussions. Even the Supreme Court has indicated that individuals who incite hatred should be penalized, yet he remains untouched.”
Azmi further defended Kerala, asserting, “Labeling a state as 'mini-Pakistan' is entirely incorrect. Kerala is a state that embodies unity, which seems to unsettle him. Rahul Gandhi has a history of electoral success. His family has made significant sacrifices for the nation, and his mother continues to strive for its welfare.”
“Individuals like Rane seek only to sow discord against Muslims, demean them, and cater to the majority to secure power. This might be why he received his ministerial position. Such comments reveal their true motives,” he added.
Shiv Sena (UBT) spokesperson Anand Dubey accused the BJP of gaining politically from such divisive remarks.
“Since the Prime Minister was elected from Banaras with a mere one lakh votes, the BJP has become agitated. The real setback occurred when Priyanka Gandhi won from Wayanad by a significant margin. Now, they resort to disparaging Kerala by dubbing it 'mini-Pakistan' and alleging it harbors terrorists,” he elaborated to IANS.
“These statements are intended to spread venom and gain political advantage. Leaders like Rane are rewarded with ministerial roles, akin to Giriraj Singh and Himanta Biswa Sarma,” he remarked.
Former TMC MP Majeed Memon also criticized Rane, emphasizing the constitutional obligations of a minister.
“Kerala boasts the highest literacy rate. Referring to it as 'mini-Pakistan' and linking it to extremism is disgraceful. The Home Ministry, agencies, and the Centre must step in, and decisive action should be taken,” he insisted.
Memon urged Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to act, stating, “If someone who has pledged to uphold the Constitution can assert that a part of the nation is associated with Pakistan, how can they honor their oath? Such individuals should not hold ministerial positions even for a moment. However, the Chief Minister is unlikely to take action as Rane is one of his favorites.”
Senior Congress leader Pawan Khera joined the criticism, questioning the BJP's position on Kerala elections.
“Are they suggesting Kerala exists outside Indian boundaries? Such unconstitutional remarks expose their desperation. Unable to create history, they now seek to alter geography,” Khera remarked to IANS.
As Opposition leaders push for accountability, the controversy surrounding Rane's comments underscores concerns regarding political rhetoric and the obligations of public officials in fostering national unity.
