Mumbai, March 12 (NationPress) - Members of the Opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly disrupted proceedings and staged a walkout on Wednesday, protesting the Mahayuti government's inability to raise the monthly financial assistance for beneficiaries of the Ladki Bahin Yojana from Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,100.

The opposition argued that the Mahayuti had failed to fulfill its electoral promises.

NCP-SP legislator Rohit Pawar pointed out that the government neglected its pledge by not increasing the monthly aid to Rs 2,100 for women under the Ladki Bahin Yojana, noting its absence in the state Budget presented on Monday.

Shiv Sena-UBT legislator Varun Sardesai urged the state government to disburse the revised financial aid promptly to the women beneficiaries. With no response from the government, the opposition chose to exit the Assembly.

It’s important to note that Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Ajit Pawar, following the Budget presentation of the Mahayuti government, stated, “We only mentioned during the Assembly elections that we would increase the aid if elected. Show me any statement where I specified when the aid would be given. We will announce the increase, and only then will the beneficiaries receive it.”

Chief Minister Fadnavis added that discussions are ongoing regarding the enhanced payouts to the women beneficiaries. During the Budget debate, opposition leaders, including Jayant Patil, Vijay Wadettiwar, and Jitendra Awhad, criticized the government for not raising the monthly aid to Rs 2,100.

Prior to the proceedings of both Houses of the state legislature, the opposition had also protested at the entrance of the Vidhan Bhavan, demanding an announcement regarding a farm loan waiver.

Regarding the farm loan waiver, Ajit Pawar asserted he had never made any commitments on this issue.
