New Delhi, Dec 2 (NationPress) Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan criticized the opposition during a session in Parliament on Tuesday, accusing them of intentionally attempting to “instigate chaos and foster lawlessness” rather than partaking in meaningful discussions. This statement was made in the wake of the opposition's demonstrations regarding the Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls (SIR) and their call for an extensive discourse on electoral roll updates and broader national concerns.
In a conversation with reporters, Pradhan remarked, “The Prime Minister has rightly emphasized that discussions should focus on policy, and the government is open to facing criticism on any topic. However, the opposition appears more interested in creating chaos and spreading lawlessness...”
He called on the opposition to return to the legislative assembly and adhere to constitutional norms. “The opposition should enter the House and deliberate on issues as per the law and order. The government wishes to discuss ‘Vande Mataram’. Is the impending 150th anniversary of ‘Vande Mataram’ not a point of pride for every citizen?” he questioned, stressing the government's goal to commemorate the significant milestone of the national anthem.
Pradhan affirmed that the government is not averse to any legitimate discourse. “In Parliament, we welcome open discussions. The government has made its position clear that any matter can be brought up for discussion... I urge the opposition to engage in talks following the prescribed rules and procedures. If there exists any rational thought among them, they should acknowledge the electoral mandate in Bihar,” he added, referencing the recent election outcomes in the state.
Responding to comments from Akhilesh Yadav, leader of the Samajwadi Party, Pradhan delivered a straightforward response: “Akhilesh Yadav has traveled extensively in Bihar, making numerous bold claims. Rahul Gandhi also campaigned significantly in Bihar, and his sister visited often. Their favored leader, Tejashwi Yadav, has also campaigned widely in Bihar. Nonetheless, the electorate has overwhelmingly rejected them... This was evident even prior to the Uttar Pradesh elections when they were likely to lose.”
The situation escalated amidst rising tensions in Parliament since the commencement of the Winter Session. The opposition, alleging “vote theft” and potential disenfranchisement due to the SIR process across various states, has consistently disrupted proceedings, demanding a comprehensive debate on the matter.
On Monday, the House faced multiple adjournments as opposition MPs stormed the Well in the Lok Sabha, shouting slogans and displaying placards, accusing the government and electoral authorities of undermining democratic practices.
