Over 80% of Assam Households Have Tap Water Connections: CM Sarma

New Delhi, Dec 2 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, emphasized on Monday that over 80% of households in Assam now benefit from tap water connections as part of the Central government's Har Ghar Jal initiative.
During a meeting with Union Minister for Jal Shakti, C.R. Patil, in his office at Shram Shakti Bhawan in the national capital, Sarma highlighted the substantial progress the state has made in realizing the Prime Minister's vision of Har Ghar Jal with over 80% of homes connected to tap water.
While discussing future plans for the initiative, the Chief Minister requested the Union Minister's support to further advance the Har Ghar Jal program and achieve full saturation.
The Union Minister assured Sarma of his Ministry's comprehensive support to help Assam reach the saturation point under the Jal Jeevan Mission.
Present at the discussions were Union Minister of State for External Affairs, Pabitra Margherita, Chief Secretary of Assam, Ravi Kota, and senior officials from the Ministry of Jal Shakti.
The Har Ghar Jal scheme, launched by the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India, under the Jal Jeevan Mission in 2019, aims to supply 55 litres of tap water per capita daily to every rural household by 2024.
Chief Minister Sarma remarked on X, "Assam is actively pursuing the Hon'ble Prime Minister's vision of Har Ghar Jal and we have achieved over 80% of our tap water connection target so far."
He further stated, "To advance the Jal Jeevan initiative and ensure its saturation in the state, I convened a meeting with Hon'ble Union Minister Shri @CRPaatil today to discuss the future roadmap for the project."
Earlier that day, the Chief Minister also met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss various developmental issues.
