Is there no possibility of Sasikala and OPS in AIADMK or NDA alliance?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chennai, Jan 8 (NationPress) AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami firmly stated that there is no possibility of reconciliation with V.K. Sasikala or O. Panneerselvam (OPS) within the party or in the wider coalition led by the Dravidian political party.
During a press interaction at the New Delhi airport, Palaniswami emphasized that his stance has been communicated "consistently and clearly".
The AIADMK leader recently met with Union Home Minister and senior BJP figure Amit Shah in the capital on Wednesday night.
Palaniswami recalled that during the reestablishment of connections between the AIADMK and the BJP, Shah assured him that the BJP would refrain from meddling in the internal matters of the AIADMK.
When questioned about the potential inclusion of the Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) led by T.T.V. Dhinakaran, the AIADMK General Secretary opted not to engage in what he labeled "speculation".
Nevertheless, he mentioned that additional parties would be welcomed into the alliance in due time, without providing specifics.
In response to suggestions that including Sasikala and Panneerselvam could enhance the AIADMK-led NDA front, Palaniswami asserted that the AIADMK remains a "robust organization," citing the narrow vote margin of around two lakh votes between the AIADMK and DMK in 43 constituencies during the 2021 Assembly elections.
The former Chief Minister also explained that he was unable to meet with Shah during the latter's recent visit to Tamil Nadu due to prior commitments to party events in Salem and Kallakurichi, but later briefed him on the current political dynamics in the state.
He recalled that attempts to integrate the AMMK into the NDA-led coalition in 2021 did not succeed.
Dhinakaran and Panneerselvam subsequently allied with the BJP during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, although they exited the NDA shortly after the AIADMK and BJP renewed ties in April 2025.
Recent reports indicate that both leaders have been in contact with the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) led by Vijay, while the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) is also viewed as a potential ally for the AIADMK-led coalition.
Reports from sections of the Tamil media suggest that the BJP is eager to finalize the coalition by the end of the month, ahead of an anticipated visit from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Addressing governance issues in the state, Palaniswami accused the DMK government of orchestrating a "deception drama" with the Tamil Nadu Assured Pension Scheme.
He pointed out that the scheme is virtually identical to the Centre's Unified Pension Scheme, aside from a change in name, and noted that unlike the previous pension system, it lacks provisions for periodic adjustments based on Pay Commission recommendations.
