International Women’s Day: Pana Devi's Inspiring Journey of Overcoming Adversity in Rajasthan
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Churu (Rajasthan), March 8 (NationPress) The journey of Pana Devi from Rajasthan embodies a remarkable tale of resilience, strength, and unyielding spirit, overcoming numerous hurdles from her childhood to adulthood to achieve what many might deem impossible.
Despite financial hardships preventing her from pursuing an education, Pana Devi established her own entrepreneurial venture, now gaining significant attention.
Residing in Aspalsar village, located 55 kilometers from Churu district, she studied until the fifth grade and was married at the tender age of 12. After two years of marriage, she relocated to her in-laws' home, where she began to build her family, bearing significant responsibilities at a young age.
Initially, she worked as a laborer under the MNREGA, engaging in agricultural tasks.
Encouraged by her father, Pana pursued education post-marriage, completing her studies till Class 8 at the Anganwadi center, but she was unable to secure employment there due to her disability.
In 2016, her life took a transformative turn through her association with Rajivika, where she began receiving an honorarium of Rs 2,250. With this savings and a small bank loan, she embarked on her business journey.
While managing her entrepreneurial endeavor, she also completed her graduation.
A significant turning point arrived when she was appointed as a ‘methas’ in NREGA.
With small loans from Rajivika, she commenced the production of sanitary napkins. Initially relying on a modest machine, her business expanded over time. The District Collector, Siddharth Siyag, supported her by providing a larger machine from his budget. Today, around 20 women collaborate in her production unit.
Pana Devi's influence extends beyond her enterprise; she actively encourages the women in her village to pursue education, inspiring nearly 40 women to continue their studies.
Additionally, she has trained hundreds of women associated with Rajivika across seven to eight districts and has shared her knowledge through various training programs, significantly aiding women in securing employment in diverse fields.
Her accomplishments also granted her the honor of meeting President Droupadi Murmu, a moment she cherishes deeply.
Pana Devi reflects on her lifelong struggles, stating that while challenges have always accompanied her, they have also empowered her to forge ahead without fear.
Officials Priyanka Chaudhary and Manju from Rajasthan Rural Development emphasize that Pana Devi's narrative illustrates that no matter the magnitude of the struggle, success is achievable through a combination of courage and hard work.
