New Delhi, May 18 (NationPress) The Modi government’s extensive initiatives for women empowerment, along with the unwavering spirit of women across India, are crafting a remarkable narrative that has garnered international attention.
A recent illustration of this transformation is seen in Bihar’s Begusarai district, where the Jeevika Yojana is revolutionizing the lives of women, empowering them to rise above challenges and achieve self-sufficiency.
Pachamba, located approximately 5 km from Begusarai, has emerged as a significant hub for the empowerment brought by the 'Jeevika Didi' initiative, with Neelu Kumari standing out as a beacon of this success.
Nevertheless, Neelu’s path was fraught with difficulties. Her marriage introduced her to one of her greatest obstacles, which ultimately sparked her inspiring journey.
Her husband struggled with alcoholism, and her in-laws subjected her to relentless harassment, leading her to return to her parental home. However, with the support of Jeevika's sewing center, she has not only achieved self-reliance but has also ascended to new heights of success.
Neelu Kumari recounted to IANS that she wed Chandan Kumar Sharma, a resident of Asha toll village in Bhagalpur district, in 2010, only to discover that the groom’s family had misled them.
“During our marriage, Chandan’s family claimed he was employed in a tower installation company. However, post-marriage, I learned he was unemployed and struggled with alcohol addiction,” she stated.
She endured physical and emotional abuse from her husband and faced relentless pressure from her in-laws, who blamed her for not having a son and deprived her two daughters of education and proper nutrition.
Faced with such adversity, Neelu opted for a different route by joining 'Muskaan Jeevika'.
Today, she actively participates in the Jeevika program, engaging in sewing and embroidery, thus paving a brighter future for her daughters.
Neelu Kumari expressed that prior to joining Jeevika, financial hardships plagued her, but now she stands firmly on her own two feet.
Moreover, she is not alone; the lives of countless women like Neelu have been transformed through their association with Jeevika.
Interestingly, Jeevika is a community-driven initiative in Bihar, comprising around 10 lakh women’s self-help groups, uniting roughly 1.24 crore women for Swachhata Hi Seva in the region. This collective effort showcases the true essence of Nari Shakti, as women collaborate to promote awareness and engage in large-scale cleanliness initiatives across villages.
