Patna, Jan 20 (NationPress) In the wake of the shocking case involving the mysterious death of a NEET aspirant at a girls' hostel in Patna, Purnea MP Rajesh Ranjan, popularly known as Pappu Yadav, has vehemently criticized Bihar's Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister, Samrat Choudhary. Yadav accused the administration led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and the police of failing to act promptly at a critical time.
During a press conference in Patna, Pappu Yadav expressed his discontent regarding the actions of the Patna Police and the state government.
“After the incident was reported, why was the victim rushed to a private facility instead of Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH)? The Nitish Kumar administration has invested ₹5,500 crore in upgrading PMCH, yet they don't trust their own leading hospital. What is the purpose of such significant financial commitment if patients are not treated there?” he questioned.
He further claimed that the victim was only taken to PMCH posthumously for a post-mortem.
“Even before the post-mortem findings were released, Patna Police dismissed the possibility of sexual assault. Who are they trying to shield in this matter?” Yadav demanded.
Pointing out serious shortcomings in the investigation, the MP noted that the incident occurred on January 6, and the victim passed away on January 11, yet the Patna Police did not record her statement during this critical window.
“The family consistently alleged foul play and protested at Kargil Chowk, but instead of taking appropriate measures, the police responded with a lathi charge. This indicates severe negligence and a lack of sensitivity,” he stated.
Yadav also referenced a similar situation at the Perfect Girls’ Hostel on Fraser Road, questioning the police's lack of adequate response in that case too.
“The victim from that case hailed from Goh block in Aurangabad. Despite the family's allegations of foul play, no substantial action has been taken against the offenders,” he insisted.
Raising alarms regarding student safety, Pappu Yadav stated that girls’ hostels and paying guest facilities are proliferating across Patna without any proper regulations or safety protocols.
“Five- and six-storey buildings are being constructed without adherence to building codes. While Samrat Choudhary uses bulldozers to demolish the homes of the impoverished, when will he target these illegal hostels?” he questioned.
