Bengaluru, Jan 16 (NationPress) Karnataka's Home Minister G. Parameshwara emphasized on Thursday that addressing crime against women demands more than just police intervention, urging for a societal transformation to combat this pervasive issue.
During a media briefing, Parameshwara highlighted, "The rise in rapes involving women and children reflects a significant social dilemma."
"We require actions on a broader scale. Educational institutions must integrate this topic into their curricula. It should be part of school education. This issue necessitates a long-term approach and cannot be solved merely through arrests and filing cases," he elaborated.
He further reiterated, "It is crucial for the community to initiate change."
In an incident in Torangal town, Ballari district, a rape suspect attempted to flee from police custody while being taken to the crime scene for reenactment and was wounded in the leg.
As reported by the police, the 26-year-old suspect, identified as Manjunath from Kamalapura, attacked officers while they were documenting the investigation.
The rape incident occurred on January 13. Following the complaint, police formed three teams, leading to Manjunath's arrest in Koppal district.
When taken to the crime scene for the investigation, he assaulted constable Raghupathy and attempted to escape.
In response, Police Sub-Inspector Dakesh discharged his firearm, hitting him in the right leg. The suspect has been admitted to VIMS Hospital.
On the day of the incident, the intoxicated Manjunath had lured a minor girl and assaulted her after observing her play outside her residence.
