Karnataka Minister Responds to Professor's Dismissal Amid Controversial Proposal
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, March 27 (NationPress) Karnataka's Home Minister G. Parameshwara announced on Friday that the college instructor who allegedly made a romantic proposal to a female student during class has been dismissed from his position. Parameshwara, who owns the medical institution, expressed that it was unjust to associate him with this incident.
It is important to note that a professor from a private medical college located on the outskirts of Bengaluru faced student backlash after reportedly proposing to a female student during a lecture, raising significant concern.
Addressing claims that Wale Chandru, the accused, was not mentioned in the fraudulent recruitment letter scam due to supposed connections with the Home Minister, Parameshwara reacted strongly, asserting that he is being unfairly blamed for various issues. “If something occurs in my college, my name gets involved. Is nothing happening in any other institutions? Should the Home Minister be accountable for everything?” he questioned.
“The Home Minister will function within legal boundaries. This situation is inappropriate. Why is this happening? Should I be at fault for incidents in other colleges? The media must also exercise caution. The college administration will manage the matter. He was hired based on his qualifications. If any wrongdoing is discovered, disciplinary measures will be enforced, or he will be dismissed,” Parameshwara stated.
“Based on the information I have, he has indeed been dismissed from the college. What’s commendable about that?” he added.
It can be recalled that a professor at a private medical college was reportedly attacked by students after he allegedly proposed to a female student during a lecture, according to police reports from Thursday.
Authorities are treating the case with utmost seriousness as the professor and the female student belong to different communities.
The incident was reported from a college under the jurisdiction of the Nelamangala Rural Police Station. Authorities have begun searching for the alleged assailants. A video capturing the incident went viral, stirring public concern.
As per police accounts, the incident took place while class was in session. The professor reportedly offered chocolate to a female student and expressed his feelings openly in front of the class.
The student promptly objected to his actions and challenged him in class. The situation escalated when she allegedly struck the professor with her slipper.
Following this confrontation, other students, angered by the professor’s behavior, reportedly pursued and assaulted him on campus. He was allegedly beaten near his vehicle. Fearing further aggression, the professor managed to escape.
Preliminary details indicate that the professor claimed in class he was proposing to a “very important girl” from the batch and distributed chocolates to the students. However, the female student firmly rejected his advances and advised him to take the matter to the college Principal instead.
A video shows the professor declaring in class that he could not contain his feelings for a girl from the batch and was proposing to her. "I am handing out chocolates to a very significant girl of this batch and to all of you," he stated, adding: "I love you."
The female student confronted the professor, questioning when she had ever proposed to him. She insisted he speak to the principal if he wished to address the matter, stating that the entire class would accompany him. The professor then challenged her, asking how she could have proposed to him, to which she reiterated her question.
The professor claimed there was evidence in the CCTV footage. The student challenged him to present the footage immediately. However, he attempted to defer the discussion to the next day, to which the student retorted that she had no interest in discussing it at all. Despite the altercation, the professor was later seen distributing chocolates to students. Further investigations are underway.
