Chandigarh, April 9 (NationPress) Jashan Gill, a self-proclaimed pastor, surrendered to a trial court in Gurdaspur, Punjab, on Wednesday. He faces serious allegations of raping a 22-year-old BCA student and subsequently coercing her into an abortion, which tragically resulted in her death in 2023.
The father of the victim has accused Gill of deceiving his daughter with false promises, raping her, and facilitating a poorly executed abortion that led to severe health complications.
Just a day prior, police apprehended Gill's siblings.
The victim's father has also criticized the police for their alleged corruption, claiming that Gill has bribed officials, which has allowed him to evade arrest.
"The police have not taken action against Gill, who continues to live freely despite the incident occurring in 2023. They accept bribes from him," the father stated.
Furthermore, he accused Gill of threatening his life multiple times.
In pursuit of justice, the father approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking a CBI investigation into the matter.
Gill's surrender comes shortly after a Mohali court sentenced another self-styled pastor, Bajinder Singh, to life imprisonment for a 2018 sexual harassment case.
The Additional District and Sessions Judge, Vikrant Kumar, delivered a guilty verdict against Bajinder Singh, known as the 'Yeshu Yeshu Prophet', for establishing non-consensual sexual relations under the guise of offering travel opportunities.
The court found Bajinder Singh, 42, from Jalandhar, guilty on March 28. He faced prior accusations in 2022 of taking money from a Delhi family to treat their ailing daughter, who unfortunately could not be saved.
