Jodhpur, April 1 (NationPress) The self-proclaimed godman Asaram, found guilty of raping a minor, has turned himself in at Jodhpur Central Jail following the expiration of his interim bail issued by the Rajasthan High Court. His bail period concluded on March 31, and his legal representatives have since filed a petition for an extension, scheduled for review on Wednesday.

As a result of the court holiday from March 29 to 31, Asaram's attorney, Nishant Borda, sought an urgent hearing on Tuesday.

Dinesh Jain, a lawyer at the Rajasthan High Court, has confirmed that the request for an extension of the interim bail will be presented on Wednesday.

Asaram has received convictions in rape cases in both Gandhinagar, Gujarat, and Jodhpur, Rajasthan, facing life imprisonment in both situations.

Although the Gujarat High Court extended his interim bail until June 30 last week, he remains incarcerated until he obtains relief in both cases.

He was apprehended by the Jodhpur Police at an ashram in Indore on allegations of minor rape.

After a lengthy trial, he was convicted under the POCSO Act and sentenced to life imprisonment in 2018.

The second case relates to his ashram in Gandhinagar, where a female devotee accused him of continuous sexual assault in 2013.

In January 2023, the Gandhinagar Court sentenced him to life imprisonment after reviewing the case.

He received bail from the Supreme Court in the Gujarat rape case on January 7, and in the Jodhpur case on January 14.

After spending 11 years, 4 months, and 12 days in prison, Asaram was granted interim bail due to health issues.
