Chandigarh, March 28 (NationPress) A court in Mohali has sentenced Christian preacher Bajinder Singh to life imprisonment due to his involvement in a 2018 rape case.
The ruling was delivered by Additional District and Sessions Judge Vikrant Kumar, who found that a woman accused the 'Yeshu Yeshu Prophet' of engaging in non-consensual sexual relations under the guise of promising to take her overseas.
The victim also claimed that the preacher recorded an obscene video of her.
Bajinder Singh, aged 42 and based in Jalandhar, was declared guilty on March 28.
A case was initiated against him in Zirakpur, located near Mohali, on April 20, 2018, and he faced charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Information Technology (IT) Act.
In addition to Bajinder Singh, five others, including fellow pastors Jatinder and Akbar, as well as Sattar Ali and Sandeep Pehelwan, were also implicated.
Bajinder Singh, known for his claims of healing ailments through miracles, appeared before the court on Monday, after which the verdict was postponed.
Earlier this February, he faced allegations of sexual harassment from another woman. A video emerged on March 16 showing him slapping a woman, a resident of Mohali who was affiliated with his organization, at his office in Chandigarh. This woman had previously filed a complaint against him, asserting sexual misconduct at his church in Jalandhar, the Church of Glory and Wisdom. She indicated that he had sent her inappropriate messages and made unwanted advances.
The police have formed a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by Superintendent of Police Rupinder Kaur, to investigate the allegations. Furthermore, the Punjab State Women's Commission has taken suo motu notice of the situation and instructed to ensure the complainant's safety.
In 2022, Bajinder Singh was accused of taking money from a family in Delhi for treating their daughter, who ultimately did not survive.
