New Delhi, Dec 1 (NationPress) Union Food Processing Industries Minister Chirag Paswan criticized the Opposition for their disruptions during Parliamentary sessions, labeling it a “flawed approach”. The Winter Session of the Lok Sabha was thrown into chaos on Monday as the Opposition staged loud protests over alleged “vote chori” related to the recent Bihar Assembly elections and the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in various states and union territories, resulting in the day being adjourned twice until 2 p.m.

Paswan stated that the disturbances created by the Opposition contradict democratic principles and are disapproved by several of their own members.

In an interview with IANS, Paswan remarked, “The opportunity for dialogue is being stifled, creating an environment of obstruction, which is contrary to the essence of a true democracy. Your party also has MPs who wish to express their opinions, and I believe many of them would not support the current obstructionist tactics.”

He emphasized, “During question hour, issues should be addressed properly, and such disruptions are against democratic traditions. If the Opposition’s only objective is to cause a disturbance, then that is indeed a flawed approach.”

The Lower House had resumed sessions at noon following a brief and tumultuous sitting from 11 a.m. Almost immediately, Opposition MPs surged into the Well of the House, shouting slogans of “Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhor!” and displaying placards demanding an urgent debate on what they termed a “conspiracy to erase genuine voters” through the SIR process.

Deputy Speaker Sandhya Rai, overseeing the proceedings, repeatedly implored members to return to their seats.

She assured the House that the Speaker had not rejected any of the more than 20 adjournment motion notices submitted by the Opposition and that these matters could be addressed if the House could function normally.

However, her appeals fell on deaf ears amidst the relentless uproar.

As the slogans intensified, a frustrated Deputy Speaker warned that she would have no choice but to adjourn the House.

She questioned, “Why do you refuse to allow the zero hour to proceed?”

When order did not return, she ultimately announced an adjournment until 2 p.m.

With both factions entrenched— the Opposition steadfast in their refusal to permit the House to operate without a debate on electoral irregularities and the treasury benches insistent on advancing legislative business— the Winter Session of 2025 seems poised for ongoing confrontations.
