Did Patna Police Uncover a Gang Duping Passengers with Fake Gold Biscuits?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Patna, Dec 6 (NationPress) The Patna Police have dismantled a criminal group engaged in deception and theft by offering counterfeit gold biscuits to unsuspecting travelers, as confirmed by an official on Saturday.
The operation was launched following a tip-off during routine patrols in the Bypass area under the Agamkuan police station in Patna City on Friday.
SDPO Raj Kishore Singh stated that patrolling officers observed suspicious young men seated in an auto-rickshaw, seemingly plotting a fraudulent scheme.
In a prompt response, a dedicated team led by the Agamkuan SHO was dispatched. Police encircled the area and apprehended two suspects in a tempo and two others on a scooter.
Despite attempts to escape, all four were apprehended by the police.
A comprehensive search yielded two items resembling fake gold biscuits, cash, three mobile phones, a scooter, and an auto-rickshaw.
Upon interrogation, the suspects outlined their methods.
"They tricked auto-rickshaw passengers by feigning possession of gold biscuits. If the victim resisted, they would transport them to a secluded location and rob them. Most victims were elderly women," stated SDPO Raj Kishore Singh.
All four arrested individuals are from the Sultanganj Karbala area, with one hailing from Siwan. Police identified the ringleader as Ruddam, with associates Sahil, Arman, and Jonu.
This group has been implicated in several previous fraud and robbery cases. Authorities are now investigating further to uncover any additional connections within this network.
Following the establishment of the new government, Deputy Chief Minister-cum-Home Minister Samrat Choudhary has mandated measures to combat crime.
He emphasized, "Bihar is not a haven for criminals. Anyone violating the law will either need to change their ways or exit the state."
He instructed district officials to act promptly against criminal activities, uphold strict surveillance, and enhance visible policing.
He reaffirmed that the NDA government has adopted a zero-tolerance approach towards land, sand, and liquor mafias.
