Patna Police Use Force Against BPSC Candidates During Protest

Patna, Dec 6 (NationPress) On Friday, Patna Police forcefully intervened as hundreds of candidates aspiring for the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) demonstrated outside the commission's office on Bailey Road.

The protesters were voicing their concerns regarding reports of a possible normalization process for the upcoming 70th Combined Preliminary Examination, set to take place in Bihar on December 13.

However, the Secretary of the BPSC has clarified that no formal announcement regarding normalization has been made.

Despite the commission's reassurances, candidates are demanding a definitive statement to prevent any unexpected changes that might jeopardize their chances.

Supported by student leaders, the candidates insisted that the exam should be held without normalization, following the traditional approach.

Protesters argued that normalization would be unwarranted since the examination is planned for a single shift across all centers.

Their request is for the examination process to remain unchanged, ensuring consistency and fairness without the need for extra calculations.

Given that a single set of questions will be utilized, candidates feel that normalization — typically used to account for variations in difficulty over multiple shifts — is unnecessary.

Meanwhile, Satya Prakash Sharma, the Secretary of BPSC, reiterated that there are no plans for normalization.

“If normalization were to be implemented, it would have been clearly stated in the notification or a separate announcement would have been made,” Sharma stated.

He dismissed the protests as unfounded, asserting: "Why should the commission respond to misleading claims about normalization? The protesters are not serious candidates but rather individuals who lack focus on their studies."

He pointed out that typically only one percent of candidates pass, and those who are genuinely preparing for the exam are not participating in such protests.

The preliminary examination for the 70th combined BPSC is scheduled for December 13, 2024, in a single shift across 925 centers in Bihar, with approximately 4.80 lakh candidates expected to take part.

The admit card was made available on the commission's website on Friday.

The protests underscore a wider concern among candidates regarding transparency and fairness within recruitment processes.

This escalating unrest highlights the critical need for clear communication between examination authorities and candidates to maintain trust in competitive examination systems.

Previously, Tejashwi Yadav, a leader of the RJD and the Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, expressed his support for the protesting candidates, amplifying their calls for clarity and fairness in the exam process.
