JD-U Supports Government's Actions Amid Escalating BPSC Protests Following Police Clash

Patna, Dec 26 (NationPress) As the protests by Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) candidates intensified into violence following a police lathi-charge intended to disperse the crowds, Janata Dal (United) leader Rajiv Ranjan Prasad defended the government's actions on Thursday. He remarked that at times, the government must take difficult decisions, and it is essential to comprehend the reasoning behind such choices.
In an interview with IANS, Prasad stressed the importance of understanding the context surrounding these decisions.
"Normalisation was a significant issue regarding the BPSC exam, which was not included in the notification. The BPSC clarified this. Nevertheless, conflict arose despite the exams occurring peacefully at 911 centres," he stated.
Prasad dismissed the protesters' allegations, insisting that the challenges were confined to just one exam centre that was canceled, while the remaining exams proceeded without incident.
He called on students to concentrate on their futures, highlighting that Bihar has generated 36 lakh jobs in recent months and will continue to create additional opportunities.
"The youth of Bihar should rally behind the state government's initiatives as it actively works to provide job opportunities," Prasad asserted.
Additionally, Prasad criticized those instigating the protests, claiming they lacked the qualifications to take the BPSC exams themselves.
"Students must recognize that they are being misled," he emphasized.
Meanwhile, opposition leaders like RJD Chief Lalu Prasad and Purnea MP Rajesh Ranjan, known as Pappu Yadav, condemned the police's actions against BPSC candidates. Lalu Prasad, during a press conference in Patna, denounced the lathi-charge as 'completely inappropriate'. Pappu Yadav, visiting the protest site in Gardanibagh, expressed his support for the students and vowed to initiate a statewide protest if the BPSC exam is not annulled.
The controversy emerged when candidates demanded the complete annulment of the BPSC exam, while the government only canceled it at one centre. The protests escalated on Wednesday as candidates attempted to encircle the BPSC office, prompting police intervention.
Patna Police have lodged an FIR against the protesters and alleged instigators, including coaching centres and social media accounts accused of disseminating false information.
