Lalu Prasad Criticizes Nitish Government for Police Brutality Against BPSC Candidates

Patna, Dec 26 (NationPress) RJD Chief Lalu Prasad expressed his strong disapproval of the Nitish government’s actions, particularly the lathi-charge on candidates from the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) who were engaged in protests demanding the cancellation of the December 13 examinations.
During a media interaction in Patna, Lalu Prasad condemned the police crackdown, stating: "This should not have happened, this is absolutely wrong."
In solidarity with the demonstrators, Purnea MP Pappu Yadav visited the Gardanibagh Dharna site to meet with the distressed candidates.
Pappu Yadav has declared a statewide protest in Bihar if the BPSC fails to annul the entire examination.
The protests by BPSC candidates have intensified, resulting in a controversial police response along with legal actions against both protestors and those accused of inciting violence.
The candidates initiated their dharna on December 18, advocating for the complete cancellation of the BPSC examination. Their frustration grew when the BPSC opted to cancel the examination at just one center and reschedule it for January 4.
On Wednesday evening, demonstrators attempted to encircle the BPSC office regarding this matter, which led to police intervention, including a lathi-charge.
The Patna Police have lodged an FIR against the protesters, as well as some coaching institutes and social media accounts allegedly involved in disseminating false information and inciting the candidates.
According to Anu Kumari, SDPO of (Sachiwalay) of Patna Police, "Accounts such as BPSC Network, Study for Civil Services, Civil Adda, and UPSC Civil Service Examination have been flagged for allegedly misleading posts. We have registered an FIR against them and notices are being served."
The protesters reportedly vandalized property at Gardanibagh Hospital on December 23, further escalating the situation. The Patna Police have also filed an FIR against candidates involved in that incident.
Anu Kumari noted: "On Wednesday, the protesters illegally surrounded the BPSC office on Nehru Road, a crucial route in Patna where protests are prohibited. Their actions disrupted public order, and the district administration employed mild force to restore normalcy. We have urged the public to disregard rumors circulating on social media."
