Rahul Gandhi Criticizes Nitish Government for Police Brutality Against BPSC Candidates

New Delhi, Dec 26 (NationPress) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday criticized the Nitish government for the police brutality against Bihar Public Service Commission candidates in Patna during their protest demanding the cancellation of the December 13 exams.
"I had mentioned in Parliament that much like Eklavya's thumb was severed, the aspirations of the youth are being stifled by the leaking of exam papers," stated the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha in a post on X.
"A recent instance of this is seen in Bihar. BPSC candidates are voicing their concerns regarding the paper leak and are demanding the annulment of the exam. However, rather than addressing these concerns, the NDA government resorts to police brutality against the students," he remarked, attaching a video of the police action on the social media platform.
Expressing solidarity with the protesters, the Gandhi scion stated, "This conduct is profoundly shameful and unacceptable. Tampering with the futures of students will not be condoned. We stand with them and will advocate for their justice."
The ongoing agitation by BPSC candidates has intensified, eliciting a contentious response from law enforcement and legal repercussions against both protesters and alleged instigators.
The candidates initiated their sit-in protest on December 18, demanding the total cancellation of the BPSC examination. Their discontent escalated when the BPSC only annulled the examination for one center and rescheduled it for January 4, 2025.
On Wednesday evening, protesters attempted to encircle the BPSC office regarding this matter, triggering police intervention, including a lathi-charge.
Patna Police have filed a First Information Report (FIR) against protesters, several coaching institutes, and social media accounts purportedly involved in spreading false information and inciting candidates.
"Accounts like BPSC Network, Study for Civil Services, Civil Adda, and UPSC Civil Service Examination have been flagged for allegedly propagating misleading information. We have filed an FIR against them and are issuing notices," stated Anu Kumari, SDPO of (Sachiwalay) of Patna Police.
Anu Kumari further explained: "On Wednesday, the protesters illegally surrounded the BPSC office located on Nehru Road, a crucial route in Patna where demonstrations are prohibited. Their actions disrupted public order, necessitating the district administration to employ mild force to restore normalcy. We have urged the public to disregard rumors circulating on social media."
