Jaipur, April 14 (NationPress) - On Tuesday, Congress leader Sachin Pilot reiterated the significant importance of the Constitution and proposed an all-party assembly to discuss the pressing issue of women's reservation.

While addressing the media at the Rajasthan Congress headquarters in celebration of B.R. Ambedkar's birth anniversary, Pilot acknowledged that Dr. Ambedkar's contributions to the nation are unmatched.

He remarked that despite facing difficult social challenges, Dr. Ambedkar dedicated years to drafting a Constitution that continues to serve as a guiding light for the nation.

Pilot expressed alarm over the growing tendency to overlook the essence and stipulations of the Constitution in contemporary times.

He encouraged those in authority to introspect on their adherence to constitutional values.

Pilot pointed out that mere symbolic gestures of respect for the Constitution are insufficient; actions must mirror its principles to honour the vision of Babasaheb Ambedkar.

Reinforcing the Congress' commitment to constitutional principles, he stated that the party regards the Constitution as a sacred document that upholds inclusivity and justice for all.

Regarding women's reservation, he reminded that during the leadership of Sonia Gandhi and the UPA government under former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, a Bill for one-third reservation for women was introduced but faced obstacles in passing.

While he appreciated the intentions behind the recent Bill presented by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Pilot insisted on maintaining procedural integrity.

He raised concerns about possible delays due to the delimitation and census processes.

In this context, he called for an all-party meeting to thoroughly discuss women's reservation and foster consensus among political factions.

Pilot underlined that this issue necessitates extensive discussions in the legislative assembly.

Touching on broader governance issues, he accused the current Union government of neglecting public issues and democratic institutions.

He criticized the delays in Panchayat elections and interruptions in NREGA initiatives, asserting that administrative inaction is negatively impacting the grassroots populace.

Pilot also raised concerns about key local leadership roles, such as Sarpanch, Councillor, and Mayor, being unfilled due to political factors.

On the topic of women's safety, he mentioned that if incidents occur in Jaipur, one can only imagine the situation in other districts of Rajasthan, urging the state government to prioritise law and order.

He stressed the necessity for administrative independence, advocating that officials should operate free from political interference.

Pilot noted that numerous announcements made in the Rajasthan Assembly have yet to see implementation.

In relation to the recent Assembly elections across four states and one Union Territory, he commented that the high voter turnout in Kerala indicates a call for change.

Pilot expressed optimism about the Congress party's performance in Assam, asserting that people nationwide are searching for a viable alternative to the current state governance.
