Karnataka BJP Anticipates Congress Backing for Women's Reservation Bill
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, April 16 (NationPress) The Karnataka BJP expressed optimism on Thursday that the Congress party will back the initiative, promoting equal rights for women in legislative processes.
Addressing journalists at the BJP state headquarters, Jagannath Bhavan in Bengaluru, BJP leader and MLC N. Ravikumar emphasized that B.R. Ambedkar envisioned equal rights and opportunities for everyone in the nation. He reiterated Ambedkar’s assertion that educating women equates to establishing a school, noting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reinforced this vision.
Ravikumar highlighted that previously, there were mere speeches about empowering women and granting them equal rights, but actual commitment was lacking. However, under the initiative ‘Nari Shakti,’ the Prime Minister has called for a special parliamentary session to introduce the Bill.
He mentioned that women will now have access to opportunities across various fields. Prior to significant legislative measures, women lacked equal rights, a situation that Ambedkar's advocacy helped to change. The proposed Women’s Reservation Bill will ensure equal participation of women in legislative affairs.
Narayanaswamy expressed confidence that the Congress would support the Bill without opposition. He cautioned that any dissent from the party could lead to serious repercussions in the future. He welcomed the Bill, stating that women nationwide will be thankful to PM Modi, just as they honor Dr. Ambedkar.
He criticized the Karnataka government for its insincere observance of Ambedkar Jayanti, disparaging the Chief Minister for his tardiness to the official event. He claimed that had it been a Congress function, the Chief Minister would have been prompt. He labeled the gathering at the Vidhana Soudha steps as “a series of fabrications” and accused Siddaramaiah of making misleading claims regarding Ambedkar’s electoral loss.
Narayanaswamy alleged that Siddaramaiah, who once opposed the Congress, has now joined the party and begun disseminating falsehoods. He urged Siddaramaiah to refrain from trivializing Dr. Ambedkar's legacy.
He also took aim at Minister Priyank Kharge, accusing him of spreading false information and asserting that historical documents, including letters from Jawaharlal Nehru, reveal the Congress' involvement in Ambedkar’s electoral defeat.
Narayanaswamy contended that the Congress has never genuinely advocated for minority rights, alleging that minorities support the party out of fear of the BJP. He asserted that even after 12 years of BJP rule at the Centre, minorities have faced no harm, and claimed that Muslims are beginning to appreciate PM Modi.
He referenced disciplinary actions taken by the Congress against leaders such as Jabbar and Naseer Ahmed, and mentioned that the party is now pursuing action against Minister Zameer Ahmad Khan. He urged minorities to recognize that their true opposition is not the BJP, but the Congress.
