Mysuru, April 15 (NationPress) The BJP State Vice-President and noted actress Malavika Avinash remarked on Wednesday that the initiative for women's reservation marks a celebratory moment not just for Karnataka and India, but for women globally. Speaking to the media at the BJP district office in Mysuru, she asserted that the notion of women-driven development is pivotal to PM Modi's vision for a fully developed India by 2047.
She hailed this as a crucial advancement in bolstering women's leadership and expressed optimism that political factions would refrain from politicizing this matter.
Avinash announced that a special session of Parliament has been called by PM Modi starting April 16 to implement a 33 percent reservation for women in the political arena. The discussions surrounding the Nari Shakti Vandan Bill will occur over three days, with the expectation that it will soon become law.
She pointed out that the current Lok Sabha comprises 543 seats, with plans to expand this number to 816, addressing concerns regarding representation and accommodating population growth.
Highlighting initiatives aimed at ensuring women’s dignity, she noted that the Swachh Bharat mission has facilitated the construction of toilets, while initiatives like Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao have advanced education and helped reduce female foeticide.
Avinash further mentioned efforts made to empower self-help groups, enabling women to assume leadership roles both at home and in their workplaces.
She also referenced the Bhagyalakshmi scheme, initiated during the administration of former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, which aimed to combat female foeticide.
Additionally, reservations have been established for local bodies in Karnataka, alongside initiatives such as the distribution of bicycles, which she regarded as significant strides toward women's empowerment.
She concluded by stating that PM Modi has rolled out various schemes to economically empower women, including Jan Dhan and Mudra Yojana.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, housing is being provided in rural regions, with many homes registered in women's names as part of the Prime Minister's vision.
