Key Takeaways
Lucknow, April 9 (NationPress) Uttar Pradesh's Deputy Chief Minister, Keshav Prasad Maurya, expressed his enthusiasm on Thursday for the Women’s Reservation Bill, deeming it a landmark initiative under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership that significantly enhances women’s empowerment in India.
The government plans to present amendments to the Nari Shakti Vandan Act (Women Reservation Act) during the upcoming three-day special parliamentary session.
On April 16, Parliament will convene to deliberate and potentially pass this vital Bill aimed at increasing women’s representation.
In a media briefing in Lucknow, Maurya highlighted that the proposed legislation for women’s reservation in both Parliament and state legislative assemblies has created “waves of happiness” among women, who represent almost half of India’s population. He noted that the preparations for implementing this legislation, once ratified, are already fostering optimism and excitement nationwide.
“I wholeheartedly support and commend this Bill. The preparations for its enactment have sparked joy among half of the country’s populace (women). The entire nation is genuinely grateful to the Prime Minister for this initiative,” Maurya remarked.
He expressed his belief that the current government’s initiatives for women’s empowerment would become a significant milestone in the years to come. According to him, the present administration has taken extraordinary measures to ensure increased participation of women in governance and decision-making processes.
Commending the Prime Minister’s efforts, Maurya stated that no previous government has accomplished as much for women’s empowerment. “The Honourable Prime Minister has undertaken more work towards women empowerment than any in history, and it is improbable that anyone will replicate this in the future. He has achieved the most and the finest results in promoting women empowerment, striving to make women self-sufficient and independent,” he emphasized.
The Deputy Chief Minister underscored that policies aimed at fostering women's self-reliance and financial independence are essential for the nation’s overall development, and the reservation law would further reinforce this objective by guaranteeing adequate representation in legislative bodies.
Addressing the ongoing elections in three states, Maurya encouraged citizens to actively engage in the democratic process. He asserted that exercising the right to vote is crucial for fortifying democracy and shaping the nation’s future.
“Elections are taking place in three states. We urge the public to make use of their voting rights. Utilizing the right to vote is essential for the strengthening of democracy,” he stated.
Maurya also expressed confidence in the BJP's electoral prospects, noting that the party is set to secure a third consecutive term in Assam. He added that the BJP is expected to achieve a historic performance in Kerala, and that the NDA is likely to regain power in Puducherry.
