Key Takeaways
Bhopal, April 13 (NationPress) The Madhya Pradesh Cabinet has enthusiastically endorsed the Centre's initiative to hold a special three-day session of Parliament from April 16 to 18. This session aims to introduce and pass a Constitutional Amendment Bill to enforce the 'Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam' (Women’s Reservation Act) starting from the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.
After the Cabinet meeting on Monday, Minister Narendra Shivaji Patel addressed the media, expressing the state government's deep appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this momentous move towards empowering women. “The Prime Minister's call for this special session will amend critical provisions of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, 2023, ensuring 33 percent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state Legislative Assemblies from the upcoming 2029 general elections,” Patel remarked.
He further stated that the Cabinet of Madhya Pradesh is thankful to Prime Minister Modi for arranging this important parliamentary session, which is focused on securing one-third representation for women in legislative structures.
In celebration of this significant event and to raise awareness about women's political empowerment, the Madhya Pradesh government has proclaimed the period from April 10 to April 25 as the Nari Shakti Vandan Fortnight.
Throughout this fortnight, extensive 'Nari Shakti Vandan Conferences' and 'Nari Shakti Padayatras' (women’s empowerment marches) will be organized across the state.
Moreover, a variety of state-level initiatives concerning Nari Shakti Vandan will take place in all colleges. “These initiatives will convey the gratitude of the citizens of Madhya Pradesh to Prime Minister Modi and ensure that the message of the Government of India's strong commitment to women's empowerment reaches every individual,” Patel emphasized.
The original Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, enacted in 2023, mandated 33 percent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha, state assemblies, and the Delhi Assembly, including seats reserved for SCs and STs. However, its execution was contingent on the completion of the next Census and delimitation process. The proposed amendments are intended to expedite the timeline so that women can start benefiting from the quota with the 2029 elections.
