Karnataka BJP Critiques Congress Over Nari Shakti Bill and Delimitation Concerns
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, April 17 (NationPress) The Karnataka Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has taken a strong stance against the Opposition, asserting that Congress leaders are unnecessarily objecting to the 'Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam' and the delimitation process.
"Previously, they (Opposition) had expressed support for the Bill, but now they are contradicting themselves by opposing it," the BJP remarked.
In a press conference held in Bengaluru, R. Ashoka, the Leader of the Opposition and a senior BJP figure, stated that Congress leaders are now advocating for reservation based on religion.
"The Constitution, as envisioned by B.R. Ambedkar, does not permit reservations based on religion. Women all over the nation stand behind this Bill," he emphasized.
Furthermore, Ashoka criticized Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, claiming, "He lacks comprehension. Likewise, Congress leaders are alleging injustice. It was Congress that previously determined the number of Lok Sabha constituencies. Delimitation has always been executed according to population figures."
He indicated that Karnataka's Lok Sabha seats will grow from 28 to 42, with no decrease in representation.
"In Kerala, the seats will rise from 20 to 30, and in Tamil Nadu from 39 to 59. Yet the Opposition is still resisting this change. They fear that implementing these changes will lead to Narendra Modi becoming Prime Minister again. There is no injustice against Southern states, and no state will lose any seats. The Opposition is more focused on supporting Congress' dynastic politics than on development," LoP Ashoka claimed.
Ashoka further praised the Union government's efforts, stating that "the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is fostering gender equality through women's reservation."
He noted that previous initiatives by Congress had not succeeded. "The Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam is groundbreaking, ensuring reservation for women in both the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies. Delimitation will also be carried out based on population, guaranteeing fair representation for everyone. I commend PM Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for this initiative," he concluded.
Karnataka BJP General Secretary and MLA V. Sunil Kumar remarked, "Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was among the first to voice strong opposition against delimitation, claiming it would be unfair to Southern states. Following him, several Congress leaders have consistently worked to construct what can be described as a deceptive narrative. Their objective, it appears, was to mislead the public. Congress also tried to undermine the issue of women's reservation by employing this same narrative."
Sunil Kumar added, "While addressing the Lok Sabha about women's reservation and delimitation, Union Home Minister Amit Shah effectively countered this narrative, asserting that the Constitutional Amendment Bill, the two delimitation laws, and modifications to election regulations will not diminish the representation of South India."
"Currently, Karnataka has 28 Lok Sabha seats, which constitutes 5.15 percent of the total 543 seats. After the Bill's approval, the number of MPs from Karnataka will rise to 42, increasing its share in the Lok Sabha to 5.44 percent. There will be no losses for Karnataka," he clarified.
He also pointed out that Andhra Pradesh currently has 25 seats (4.60 percent), and post-Bill, its representation will grow to 38 seats, accounting for 4.65 percent.
"Telangana currently possesses 17 seats (3.13 percent), and this will increase to 26 seats, making up 3.18 percent after the Bill. Tamil Nadu presently has 39 seats (7.18 percent), which will rise to 59 seats, elevating its share to 7.23 percent in the prospective 816-member House. Tamil Nadu will not face any losses either," he stated.
"Kerala currently has 20 seats (3.68 percent), and this will increase to 30 seats. At present, out of 543 seats, 129 MPs are from South India, representing about 23.76 percent. In the new House, there will be 195 MPs from South India," the BJP leader elaborated.
He questioned, "Given these statistics, should Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who is referred to as a constitutional expert, apologize to the nation for promoting a false narrative?"
